A Bit of Not-so-funny Humor

Recently I read about a robbery suspect in LA who, when the police officer told the men in the lineup to repeat the words, “Give me all your money or I’ll shoot,” couldn’t contain himself and blurted, “That’s not what I said!”

Bet the poor guy later wished he took his Bible to heart. Solomon warned in Proverbs 21:23, “He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.”  Or as the Message paraphrase puts it, “Watch your words and hold your tongue; you’ll save yourself a lot of grief.”  The article didn’t say how long the hapless criminal had behind bars to contemplate his error.

I may laugh at the guy’s stupidity, but I can’t help but wonder how often I blurt out a thoughtless remark, a tweet or a facebook reply that I will regret for years to come.
