The Turnabout Teacher

The five-year-old girl’s lower lip quivered as she sat on the scary examination table.  The doctor placed the stethoscope to her chest and listened.  To ease her fears, he placed the ear pieces in her ears and let her listen to her own heart.  Her eyes widened as she heard the rhythmic thump.  Planning a simple anatomy lesson the child might understand, he then asked, “Do you know what that is?”

A bright smile wreathed her face.  “Yup.  That’s my heart.  That’s where Jesus lives.”  In an instant the teacher became the student.  Tears filled his eyes. He recalled a lesson he’d learned many years earlier and in the heat of living had subsequently forgotten. “You’re right,” he replied.  “That’s where Jesus lives.”

Matthew 21:16 NIV Jesus said, “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise.”  Sometimes the simplest praise becomes the most eloquent.
