Marathoner for Truth

Friends of mine just ran a half a marathon–thirteen miles, sore knees, aching muscles, and blisters on their toes and victory.  Jim and Donna, you are my heroes. I can’t imagine running five miles, let alone thirteen or worse yet, twenty-six.  And that’s the truth!

Some believe the distance of the Olympic marathon was determined by a messenger who ran from Marathon to Athens to deliver vital news to the ruler, and then died.  Not so.  The marathon run of twenty-six miles or 385 yards was the the distance from Shepherd’s Bush Stadium to the queen’s bedroom window and was established in 1908.  (See Complete Book of the Olympics)

Talk about taking the blush off the rose or the shine off diamond! While knowing this little historical tidbit of trivia will not affect my day by day activities, knowing the truth about God and His kingdom will and does.  Jesus said, “The truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life.  ‘Knowing the Truth’  means having an intimate and passionate connection with the Truth–Jesus Christ.   The Ancient Greeks sought truth for truth’s sake, as a holy grail.  You and I seek Truth for our personal salvation–to be set free of the bondage of sin.  Whether or not my life is a sprint or a marathon matters little in my pursuit of truth, but Truth means everything for my eternal salvation.
