The Rest of the Story

Those over the age of 50 remembes hearing Paul Harvey deliver his famous line, ‘And now for the rest of the story.’  The famed commentator would share an anecdote, pause for a commercial break and return with a unique twist or a satisfactory resolution in the form of ‘the rest of the story.’  During this last week, as visions of senseless murders and mayhem flashed across my TV screen, as I witnessed the pain and tears of dozens of people in Boston and in Texas,  I kept wishing that after the next commercial I could hear Mr. Harvey’s familiar tranquil voice, “And now for the rest of the story.”  But I never did.  There never seemed to be a satisfactory resolution to the stories.  I wondered if perhaps Paul Harvey was of a different era or perhaps there is no ‘rest of the story’ to be told.

And then I remembered my Savior’s words, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace.  In this wold you will have trouble.  But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  (John 16:33 NIV) That’s the rest of the story.  As a friend of my hubby once said, “Revelation says that in the end, all ###### will break lose and then Jesus will come.”  That’s the rest of the story.

Any thinking person can see these tragedies and others worse than we can imagine will continue to happen, and while we may find ourselves and our loved ones in the midst of trouble and turmoil, we must trust and wait for the rest of the story will be told–the part where good triumphs and evil is defeated.  So hang on, dear heart, through the tears and the despair for the best is yet to come!
