April Fools!!!

In Boca Raton, FL, a university professor instructed his students to write the name of Jesus on a piece of paper, place the paper on the floor and then stomp on it.  I don’t know what point he was trying to make or how long he’d been conducting his experiment, but this year one student refused.  The professor kicked him out of the class.  The student reported the incident to the school officials and subsequently the professor has been placed on leave with full pay.  What was his point?  If the name he’d ordered them to write had been Mohammed, what would have been the result?  A world-wide Jehad?

“What’s in a name?  Why did the student have such a reaction to stomping on the 5 letters as they were written in the instructor’s order?  After all Shakespeare wrote, “A rose is a rose by any other name.”  So why would it matter?

Philippians 2 NIV answers my question for me.  Beginning at verse 9 the Apostle Paul wrote, “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name,”  Now this is the part I love:  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Once an atheist protested Christmas and Easter to a judge saying, it wasn’t fair Christians had their holiday and not atheists.  The judge replied, “Wait!  Atheists have a holiday–April first.”  As scripture says, “A fool says in his heart there is no God…”  One day this learned university professor and this litigious atheist will no longer stomp on the name of Jesus but will be driven to their knees by His awe and majesty.
