The Forty-niners

Today Richard and I joined the California 49’ers–no, not the sports team nor the gold miners of the 1800’s, but the folks who’ve been married for 49 years.  Imagine!  Forty-nine years!  That’s incomprehensible.  That’s a lifetime. And I’d do it all over again!  Jeremiah 29:11 NIV says, “I know the plans I have for you, plans to do you good and not evil.”  God pulled out the stops on this one!  The ride we’ve shared has been wild and crazy with a dollop of tears, a bucket of laughter and a football stadium full of delightful surprises.

Together we’ve trekked throughout NA, including Alaska and Hawaii; the Caribbean; Australia and New Zealand.  Children?  We’ve lost a few and raised two beautiful and successful daughter, gained two incredible sons-in-law and spoiled two of the greatest, most intelligent and talented grandsons ever created.  (OK, so I’m prejudice!)  And the best is yet to come despite graying hair, body parts heading south, new bulges daily, and the occasional leaky pipes.  All the way, God has blessed us beyond our dreams and imaginations.

Forty-nine years after that gangly guy with the shock of Elvis-black hair vowed to love me for better and for worse–yes, there’ve been worse times too–I can see God’s hand in every detail of our long-time love affair.  “For God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything.” 1 John 3:20 NIV.

So today I am singing, dancing, praising and thanking my Daddy-God for the kind and gentle man He brought into my life.
