But I’m a Princess!

A five-year-old girl fell into a well and broke her leg.  When her father tried to lift her from the well, the girl screamed in pain.  “Daddy, you’re hurting me,” she cried.  To save her life, he persisted despite her protests.  “You can’t do this to me, Daddy!  I’m a princess!” the child wailed.

My friend Judy is not doing well.  The local medical staff has given up trying to treat her condition.  She is being flown to a major medical research hospital.  For too many years, this lady has suffered far beyond anything I can imagine.  It just isn’t fair!  I want to scream and shout, “Daddy, You can’t do this to my friend.  She’s a princess!”

And she is, a princess, that is, a daughter of the Heavenly King.  And yet, her nightmare continues.  Surely she’s suffered more than her share of pain.  Oh, I know, we all have our crosses to bear and You have a thousand reasons for choosing each of our life’s pathways.  I know we live in a world of sin.  And when we see our entire life story we will say, “You were right, Lord.  I wouldn’t have wanted it to be any other way.”

“But today, my heart aches for my friend Judy.  Ease her pain, relieve her fears and give her peace.  Help her to remember through good times and bad, through her laughter and tears, nothing has changed from Your perspective.  You love your darling daughter, your little princess.”

“I have loved you [Judy] with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness, I will build you up again! [Judy], you will take up your tambourines and go out and dance with the joyful.” Jeremiah 31:3,4 NIV

“Daddy-God, I can’t wait for that day when I will see my friend shaking her flashing red curls, playing tambourines and dancing through Elysian fields of grace.  Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
