Just an Old Fashioned Love Song

Do you ever get bored with your prayer life, saying the same things over and over again when praising God?  Are you tempted to skip the praise part and go straight to your daily lists of complaints and requests?  Omitting the “God, I love you’s” in  is like bombarding your mate with a string of gripes and complaints  after a full day’s work.  Everyone likes to hear how important he/she is to their beloved, even God.

Richard tells me that whenever an old-time love song plays on the car radio, my eyes twinkle, I get a silly smile on my face and act all soft and mushy.  “Have I Told You Lately that I Love You?” “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You,” “Loving You,” “Love Me Tender,” “Let the Rest of the World Go By,” are but a few that bring out the tender side of me.

You know what I’m talking about.  Over the years you’ve had favorites that might include, “You Light of My Life,” “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” “Hawaiian Wedding Song” “I-I-I Will Always Love You.”  Have you ever sung such a love song to your Eternal Beloved?  If not, why not?

Psalm 96:1 says, “Sing to the Lord, a new song.” New is good, but  I’ve discovered that an old sweet love song stirs my heart in ways I couldn’t have imagined.  And it adds new spice and vigor to my prayer life as well.  Give it a try.  He won’t mind if you even sing a little out of tune.
